Update from the committee - 19 April 2019
Here is an update from the committee following our April meeting
Sorry, I didn’t recognise you with your clothes on! We’re conscious that many in the club may not know what a wonderfully diverse group your committee actually are. So we plan on adding a page to the website to help everyone get acquainted with us - look out for this coming soon.
First aid course. The date is set and the venue will be a classroom at Oakham school on Thursday 25 April. There has been a lot of interest in this but we would appreciate people clicking the “going” button on the Facebook post for the event. This way we’ll be able to make sure we have enough seats in the room or even whether we need to arrange additional dates.
Summer social 8 June. This is the club’s first attempt to organise a summer social so we’re not certain what to expect. So we are calling on members to help us here. All we really need from you is a willingness and desire to make this a fun day. We’ll be organising a number of bike rides to converge on one of the car parks at Rutland Water for a picnic with your fellow riders, non riding members and all the family and friends that you can muster. This is a fully inclusive event and you can bring your own picnic, drinks and even entertainment if you would like.
New blood for the Committee. Your committee are all volunteers with busy lives outside of the club. And we are keen to ensure committee membership does not become too onerous on the individuals. We are therefore looking for new committee members to join us. There are no qualifications required; you don’t even need to ride! All you need is a passion for helping us take the club forward and around 1 hour week on average to focus on club matters. So please let us know if you are willing and able to join the committee.
Ride leaders. We currently have around 15 ride leaders at the club, all who have committed to lead some of our rides. But with more than 7 rides a week, our ride leaders are spread quite thin. We are looking for more, experienced, riders to lead our club rides. Often this is just a case of running a slower or faster than advertised club ride on (say) a Thursday, following already published route. Or, if you prefer, you can set the route, distance and pace and publish the ride on Facebook. If you would like to know more about what’s involved, please contact the committee or one of our ride leaders.
Membership renewals. Most people have now renewed their membership for the current year, so thank you very much for this. For the handful of people that have yet to renew, please do sign up via the British Cycling website.
Club kit. We have looked into a number of different options for club kit and the most cost efficient approach is one where club members place an order with the club (via Jonny Lloyd). We will either fulfill this order from our existing stock straight away or we will hold that order for a short period of time until we have enough to satisfy our suppliers minimum order quantity. We will ensure that we hold one item in stock at all times so that members can try them on for size before they ordering because we will not be able to offer returns or refunds for wrong size.
Marketing & Flyers - Dave Smith will be putting our VCR leaflet (taken from our recent advert in the Active Mag (April edition) at community locations around the town. If you are able to post the flyer up on your staff notice board at work or other locations around the county, please let us know and we can send you some copies. We are also exploring using social media campaigns to promote the club so please look out for these and let us have your feedback - more to come on this in the near future!
Training rides & Chain gang - these rides are still very much wanted by some members and it is our intention that these recommence in a structured manner as before. The club are looking for members to organise and lead these. If this is something you’re interested in, please contact Paul Slater.
As always, if you have any questions, ideas or would like to discuss anything further, please talk to one of the committee members. We need your help to make this club even greater!
